The Power and Promise of the Resurrection
by Pastor Ron Watlington
This Resurrection season, I want to take a moment to share a word that I believe is vital—not just for this time of year but for our everyday walk with Christ. It’s a word that echoes through the ages and stands at the very heart of our faith: Resurrection.
You see, the resurrection of Jesus Christ isn’t just an event we mark on the calendar—it’s the foundation of the Christian life. Without it, there would be no Gospel, no hope, and no eternal promise. The resurrection says, “There’s more for you.” More grace. More power. More purpose. More life. The resurrection also says that we have everything: redemption, purpose, victory, and a future secured in the hands of a living Savior.
I shared in past messages that the resurrection isn’t about eggs, bunnies, or baskets. It’s about life—real, abundant, victorious life. Jesus didn’t rise from the grave so we could carry on with tradition. He rose to break the chains of sin, to conquer death, and to open the door to eternal life for anyone who would believe.
In John 11:25, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” That’s not just a promise for the future—that’s a declaration for now. The resurrection offers more than a ticket to heaven—it gives us power for today. Power to overcome. Power to forgive. Power to live boldly and love deeply. A life free from the bondage of sin. A life filled with purpose, identity, and the assurance that God is with us every step of the way.
The apostle Paul puts it this way in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” But because He has been raised, our faith is not in vain. It is powerful, active, and life-giving. When Jesus rose, He proved that every word He spoke was true. He validated every promise, every prophecy, and every purpose. And He did it all so that we could walk in newness of life—not just someday, but right now.
What are the benefits of the resurrection?
- Freedom from the bondage of sin
- A living hope that anchors us through every storm
- An incorruptible inheritance that can never fade
- A restored relationship with God
- Assurance that no matter what we face, we are never without hope
This is what Resurrection Sunday is all about. Not rituals. Not routines. But a risen Savior who changes everything.
So, let’s not just celebrate the resurrection—let’s live in the power of it.
In His Victory,
Pastor Ron Watlington
